1949: At 73, the Christian Democrat Konrad Adenauer becomes the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG).
1940: The Vichy regime arrested Leon Blum. After having unsuccessfully tried to convict him for a supposed responsibility in the defeat, the Vichy government will hand Blum over to the Germans, who will be deported to Buchenwald.
1935: In Nuremberg, during the Nazi Party Congress, Hitler promulgates his first anti-Semitic laws.
1777: The US Congress adopts the "Articles of Confederation", which will lead to the creation of the United States of America.
