1963: The Black Pastor Martin Luther King delivers his “I Have a Dream” speech at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. His dream of fraternal America led to his being assassinated in 1968.

1930 : Sigmund freud, the father of psychoanalysis, receives the Goethe Prize for all of his work. This belated recognition will shortly precede the banishment of his work by the Nazis.

430: The Bishop of Hippo Augustinus (St Augustine), died during the siege of this Roman city of Algeria by the Vandals. Philosopher and theologian, his influence on Christianity will be fundamental.
