1968: The 1st thermonuclear bomb French is tested in Polynesia. France becomes the 4th country in the world to acquire this type of weaponry, after the USA, the USSR and the United Kingdom.

1572: Massacre of the Saint-Barthélemy: Protestants gathered in Paris for the wedding of Henri de Navarre and Marguerite de Valois are eliminated. The Wars of Religion are starting up again.

79: The towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum (in the vicinity of Naples), places of pleasure for the Roman elites, are destroyed, buried by ashes by the eruption of Vesuvius.
