1960: The Soviets shoot down an American spy plane U-2 which flew over the Urals at an altitude of 19,000 meters.
1886: The American unions organize a strike to limit the working day to 8 hours. Clashes between demonstrators and police kill several people. The May 1 will later become "Labor Day".
