1956: The French Parliament grants Guy Mollet special powers in Algeria.

1947: Cold War, before the US Congress, President Harry Truman presents its doctrine known as "containment". He proposes to put in place economic and financial aid, particularly for Europe, so that these countries can maintain their independence from the USSR.
1894: The Coca-Cola firm puts its first soft drink bottles on the American market.

1867: Napoleon III withdraws his support for Emperor Maximilian of Mexico, who will be taken prisoner and shot by the Republicans on June 14.
