Highlight of summer 2016, the International city of tapestry will open its doors on July 10 at Aubusson some 350 years after the establishment of the royal factory by Colbert.
Installed in a completely rehabilitated setting, the City will welcome its future visitors in an immersive museum tour inspired by theater sets and signed by the scenographers Frédérique Paoletti and Catherine Rouland. They will be invited to appreciate the tremendous inventiveness of craftsmen and artists who have devoted themselves to the art of tapestry by discovering the heritage collections of the City as well as the most contemporary creations made in local workshops will be presented.
More than a museum, the City, the first world and historical reference on tapestry is also a living place of creation, training and also support for a complete economic sector that has been preserved for six centuries in the territory.
Created in 2010, the International City of Tapestry was set up following the inscription of Aubusson tapestry know-how as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 2009 with the desire to build a ambitious place inscribed in the future.
